Having an additional freezer means that your family can store more food so that you have it when you need it. You can do things like buying meat in bulk and packing it into your freezer. It will help you save money in the long run because you won't have to worry about the price of meat going up. If you are going to have a standalone freezer, there are two basic kinds that you can choose from, chest and stand-up. They both have their benefits and drawbacks. 

Chest Freezer

A chest freezer is exactly that. It's a freezer that is shaped like a chest. It opens from the top and you put the food in the freezer. Most chest freezers have removable hanging baskets that you can put smaller stuff in or things that you are going to need to get out frequently. The baskets generally can go into the freezer anywhere they can hang, and you can slide them around so that you can get to anything under the basket. One drawback to this kind of freezer is that it can be hard to get to the stuff on the bottom of the freezer. Some of the positives are the fact that you don't lose a lot of cold air when you open the freezer since cold sinks and it will stay in the bottom freezer and keep things cold. 

Stand-Up Freezer

A stand-up freezer will look just like your refrigerator. You can get standing freezers that are the same cubic footage as a chest freezer, so that's not necessarily a problem. Standing freezers tend to have a smaller footprint than a chest freezer does, so if you have a minimal amount of space, a standing freezer might be the best choice for you. You do have to remember that you are going to have to swing the door open, but there are also stand-up freezers that have french style doors, which will halve the width of the door, but you will have to make sure that you have space on both sides of the refrigerator. A stand-up freezer can be easier to access than a chest freezer is because everything is on shelves, but when you open the door, you lose the cold quicker. 

If you are going to buy a new freezer, you want to make sure that you are getting the right one for your house. There are two basic types that you can choose from, a stand-up freezer or a chest freezer.
